Each year the Social Enterprise Masters Conference is held to showcase the work undertaken by social enterprises across Australia. The winners of the 2015 Social Enterprise Awards were announced at a ceremony held in Melbourne on 3 June 2015.
Eight winners were selected from a pool of 30 finalists, judged by an expert panel including Simon Gillies (PwC), Professor Jo Barraket (Swinburne), Allan English (Silver Chef) and Ian Mclelland (Guardian Australia).
“This year’s finalists demonstrate the quality and diversity of Australia’s social enterprise sector, and through this event we acknowledge the enormous social and community benefits that are being achieved,” said Social Traders Managing Director David Brookes.
The 8 Western Australian Disability Enterprises (WADE’s) was a finalist in the “Buy Social” Award which it has now won. The award which was sponsored by the Department of Social Services was accepted by WADE’s Chair and GSI CEO John Knowles.
“WADEs in partnership with the State Government have worked hard to create over $22m in new work for WADE members” said John accepting the award “this enriches and expands work for people with disabilities and is clever Government … turning its considerable purchasing power to create benefit for people with disabilities”. WADEs aim to achieve a total of $50m in contracts from Government and the private sector over a 4 year period.
Congratulations to the whole WADE team.
