Changes have now been made to the Local Government (Functions and General) Regulations 1996 and came into effect from the 1 October 2015.
Local Government Authorities (LGAs) now have a specific exemption in place that allows LGAs to purchase directly from WA Disability Enterprises (WADEs) without the need to seek quotations or go through a public tender process—no matter the value.
This change now aligns with the blanket exemption preference available to the Commonwealth and State Governments which support and encourage greater procurement of products and services from Disability Enterprises.
What can WADEs offer Councils?
Eight WA Disability Enterprises operate a range of commercial businesses that provide real jobs, training, and a wide range of employment support services for more than 2,000 people with disability and mental illness.
Our organisations have highly skilled and experienced personnel and we already have a proven track record of providing quality products and services to more than 30 Councils in metropolitan and regional locations.
Partnering with WADEs is a ‘win-win’ – we meet councils commercial needs whilst contributing to and adding value to social outcomes in the community.
