Two positions to assist Australian Disability Services

The Barnett Government will fund two positions to assist Australian Disability Services (ADEs)to increase the number of Government and other contracts it is awarded to create more work for people with disabilities in WA.

The Government will fund two positions:

  • Senior Procurement Officer (ADEs) in the Department of Finance; and
  • ADE Marketing Coordinator based with Good Samaritan Industries working for all ADEs

These positions will liaise with State Government Departments, Local Government and Business, coordinating the ADE approach in these areas.

The funding underlines the Government’s commitment to increasing the availability of Government work to ADEs and thereby improving the amount and quality of work to people with disability, increasing the number of jobs and remuneration for them.

Changes within Department of Finance

ADEs welcome the appointment of Lil Paskos to the position of Acting Senior Procurement Officer with responsibility for ADE procurement within the Department. Lil comes with a strong background in Government procurement, most recently in the Disability Services, so has all the experience we could hope for in her new position. Lil replaces Bindi Syminton, who is on maternity leave. We all offer Bindi and her family congratulations and Bindi thanks for her very good work. To Lil, welcome and good luck in your future role.

First major Contract Awarded in this new initiative

Workpower incorporated has been awarded a school furniture storage and retrieval contract through the Education Ministry. Worth approximately $1million over five years, this is the first million dollar contract awarded under the State  Government policy that allows the awarding os contracts to Australian Disability Enterprises without competitive tender (subject to fair value).

Congratulations to both Workpower and the Department of Education on this excellent result.
